GEMS is a relationship-building club program created especially for girls in first through eighth grades. The mission of GEMS is to help bring girls into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
GEMS introduced a new music CD, Songs We Love to Sing, and a companion creative-movement video.
The number of high school girls serving as CITs (Counselors-In-Training) has grown significantly with the introduction of leadership development materials specifically geared toward this age group. The retooled leadership training opportunities for counselors were well attended, with more than 3,000 women participating in at least one event.
New curriculums for first grade girls (God’s Kids) and for seventh- and eighth-grade girls (Radiate) also were introduced.
GEMS currently serves 600 CRC congregations and 161 non-CRC congregations with 5,100 women as counselors. Of the 22,000 girls registered, more than one-third are from unchurched homes, making GEMS one of the most effective outreach ministries offered through the church today.
